Letters to the Editor

During afternoon rush hour a few weeks ago, my wife and I were heading north on Norcross Road toward Highway 153.

Getting ready for work, I heard about a baseball player who signed a 13-year contract for over $300 million — that's $60,000 a day — more than I make in a year. I then saw a TFP headline reporting a bonus of $11,000 for each TVA employee. I'm a teacher.

According to the TVA board, its CEO received compensation of only $113,461 per week in fiscal 2013.

I have a few comments about the Nov. 12 article “Suspects in Death Get Bond Lowered.”

I am sickened by how the Chattanooga media treated young people trying to exercise their First Amendment rights on the National Day of Protest.

Regarding the article "Ebola fear: Teacher told to stay away from school after trip to Africa": While it is easy to fall victim to the idea the funders of an institution have the strongest voice, I think the St. Margaret Mary school in Louisville should have stood firm in protecting the teacher who went to Kenya.

For the crime of practically destroying Valley Memorial Baptist Church and causing so much pain to the congregation, Garrett Michael Belanger should suffer real punishment instead of a few weeks of jail time.

I enjoyed Ben Benton’s fine Oct. 23 report on coal mining approved on Dayton Mountain and the follow-up left page comments the next day.

Recently, on the Signal Mountain Cumberland Trail, I enjoyed God's wonderful gift of great weather, almost-perfect temperatures and the company of my two great friends David Harr and Jake Howell.
