The Cruise

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Salsa said Obama is leading us on a cruise TO HELL.

I guess reading comprehension is not a conservative strong suit. The cartoon is entitled, "The Cruise FROM HELL." See the difference?

Republican congressmen still are trying to justify the Iraq invasion and re-writing history for its justification. They still 'think' we can cut ourselves to prosperity, still have a knee-jerk opposition to everything the Obama administration proposes, and still find it nearly impossible to go on the record and vote on legislation and appointments.

Even a Republican senator nominated by Obama for Secretary of Defense.

"All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States..." (Constitution Article 1 section 1). So what about these executive orders?

Our President submits a budget, and Harry Reid's Senate cannot find a single vote for it. Think Sharron Engle could do better?

Saddam's Iraq had murdered foreigners; therefore foreigners were entitled to execute him. He had WMDs; one IED was a gas shell. Sure, the invasion was bungled, and nationbuilding was overambitious. What justified the invasion of Libya? K'daffy had settled down, and Congress gave no such consent to Libya as it had to Iraq' would a GOP President get away with a Libya? If Libya, why not North Korea? Strain out a gnat but swallow a camel?

AndrewLohr,

"So what about these executive orders?"

"The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America." (Article II, Section I, Clause I of the Constitution).

Executive orders only seemed to become a problem when President Obama started using them. Reagan issued 381 E.O.'s, Bush 1 issued 166, and Bush 2 issued 291. President Obama has issued 147 E.O.'s; less than each of the last 3 Republican Presidents. Were you questioning executive orders then as well? Or is it just when the brown-skinned Democrat does it? Hell, Clinton issued 364 E.O.'s. I didn't hear anyone bitching then!

"Our President submits a budget, and Harry Reid's Senate cannot find a single vote for it. Think Sharron Engle could do better?"

Who cares? You'd bash it either way.

"Saddam's Iraq had murdered foreigners; therefore foreigners were entitled to execute him."

That is probably the biggest non sequitur I've ever read.

"He had WMDs; one IED was a gas shell."

Saddam had WMD's in 1991. There were no WMD's in Iraq circa 2003 when everyone was lied to by the Bush administration to start the most senseless war of all time.

"Sure, the invasion was bungled, and nationbuilding was overambitious."

That's a huge understatement.

"What justified the invasion of Libya?"

The intervention in Libya and the war in Iraq ARE NOT equivalent.

"K'daffy had settled down, and Congress gave no such consent to Libya as it had to Iraq' would a GOP President get away with a Libya?"

First of all, it's 'Gaddafi'. Secondly, a GOP President got away with a lot worse. Iraq was much, much worse. And that "consent" you speak of was based on outright lies and conjecture. But, as is your way, you're trying to make this false equivalency between the two and even trying rationalizing the war in Iraq. Third, Gaddafi was killing Libyan rebels. Many nations were involved, not just the United States. That whole country was a ticking time-bomb during that time. I'd also like to say that I didn't support the intervention in Libya or the war in Iraq but I'm not biased or ignorant enough to say the two were equivalent or even in the same ballpark like you are, Lohr.

"If Libya, why not North Korea?"

Because North Korea hasn't done the usual stuff that makes our country start poking our noses in the business of other countries. Once they start murdering their own people en mass or discover a large oil well under their landmass then we won't get involved.

Mysterious things happen when you enter the Republican Triangle, Blackwater48. Time stops and reality is altered in the minds of a cruise ship's passengers. The knees jerk uncontrollably and people lose all common sense, which is why passengers like Senator McCain have problems with Chuck Hagel who is a prudent advocate of the “fool me once” maxim.

Yes, time has stopped for poor Senator John McCain and the rest of the passengers cruising through the Republican Triangle. It’s 2013, but Senator McCain the rest of the ship’s passengers are hopelessly stuck in the year 2003 – the era of the “big lie:”

“I believe the war in Iraq can be concluded successfully in a relatively brief time.” (Senator McCain Congressional Record, 3/18/03)

“There’s no doubt in my mind that once these people are gone that we will be welcomed as liberators,” McCain said on MSNBC’s Hardball in March 2003.

“I believe that this conflict is still going to be relatively short. I believe we’ve achieved significant goals and successes.” (Senator McCain, NBC, “Meet the Press,” 3/30/03)

“I have said a long time that reconstruction of Iraq would be a long, long, difficult process, But the conflict, the major conflict is over … The regime change is accomplished.” (Senator McCain Fox News, “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” 6/11/03)

“I just think — as I said — I think we will find weapons of mass destruction. Now, I think it’s entirely appropriate now that regime change has been orchestrated — and though the danger is certainly not over, the mission is ‘accomplished’— it’s appropriate to have a hearing.” (McCain, Salon, 6/13/03)

As long as everybody is interested in lambasting the current administration for "leading us on a cruise to hell", there is a tale of woe far more pertinent to our current situation. There is a documentary airing Monday on MSNBC (yeah, that far left, socialist-leaning, propaganda outfit) that is going to shake the ground under the feet of the Bush-Cheney cabal. No matter where they are hiding these days, they are gonna feel it.

It is titled HUBRIS: SELLING THE IRAQ WAR and the revelations from insiders and declassified documents should explain why it was Bush, Cheney and their oil-soaked, zionist/neocon shadow government which put America on its "cruise to hell' a full decade ago and made war criminals of every living American.

Obama's drone wars are the continuation of this slide into policies of unfathomable, unjustifiable murder - a place from which no American living or yet to be will escape. America is over and every death dealt by our military's video-gaming drone pilots will add to our weight of guilt.

It is owned lock, stock and barrel by corporate entities that have no interest in "the people" other than making them react like Pavlov's dogs and buy their products; or make them believe that watching reality TV is a worthwhile use of their time on Earth; that voting for the candidate who can best denigrate their opponent through lies and deception is equivalent to informed participation in buidling their government; that random killing is the path to peace; that in the face of opulence and GREED of the one percent it is the unemployed, sick, elderly, poor and struggling elements of the 99 percent of our society that are the reason our economy is threatened with collapse.

Apparently we are supposed to eagerly promote arming everybody because of an outdated 230 year-old amendment to our constitution and forget what our government did a decade ago to totally undermine it. Sorry, we are supposed to learn from history, not ignore it.

Of course. Obama the populist took off his mask a month into his first term and revealed that he is a groveling corporatist with the ability to make people think he is their knight in shining armor whiule giving the greedheads anything they want.

Corporations and their lobbyists have written the majority of our legislation in recent decades. That's why there is no public option - no single-payer. And that is why we are fighting wars that only the military-industrial complex supports. That is why we have a health care system that only big insurance and big pharma supports. That is why we have gun control laws that only gun manufacturers support.

In the current system, "voters" are nothing more than grease on the gears of the corporate machine and elections are nothing more than a means to wind its springs.

Our feckless "representatives" are worthless in the face of the system they have allowed the corps to create. All they can do are rubberstamp the wishes of big business which owns them, buys their constituency for them, uses the media to shape public opinion and steer the government to their ends and, in effect, determine who lives and dies.

bigguy....Yes, they were coerced and strong armed by Sebilius, Pelosi (Mafia Biatch), and the Gangster Pimp In Chief, Obama. You are right, Obamacare is not about enhancing healthcare or providing for the so-called uninsured, it's about our Marxist leadership trashing a private sector industry and capturing the monthly health insurance premiums being payed by hard working, tax paying American's, to be reditributed as they wish. Blue Cross Blue Shield Of Tennessee is not perfect, but I would rather continue to pay my monthly premium to a private sector, for profit corporation than to the government any day of the week. I have been very fortunate and have had few health issues but when I have BCBS of TN has been there for me anytime I needed it and with any doctor that I chose not matter the specialty. The private sector, profit driven, innovate or perish, healthcare system we currently have will always be superior to Obamacare. The insurance companies, hospitals, drug companies and doctors would not be supporting Obamacare if they had a choice. Obama simply states, "If you want to continue to serve Medicare patients, you better comply with Obamacare." Think about it.

MaxiMouse, your 1:07 post is the most inane, insane, lying piece of crap that anyone could spew. I would like to know where you get your 20 million uninsured figure from - a website called Bogus Facts for Wing-nuts Who Want to Spread Lies? It is common knowledge that there are at least 50 million Americans without any health insurance whatsoever. And many millions more who do have it have only a bare-bones policy that basically protects their assets. Because the premiums are so high for complete coverage they are forced to take extremely high deductibles, oftentimes in the range of $5,000 - $10,000, which means that they still have to pay a lot of money out of pocket. In other words, they don't really have HEALTH insurance but basically just asset protection.

Our health care system that you like to think of as the best and most innovative in the world is actually one of the absolute WORST in the world for accessibility. Presently one must be extremely rich to be able to afford it or extremely fortunate to work for one of the few remaining companies that still provide affordable, comprehensive health insurance for its employees.

The notion that "ANYONE can access healthcare, if needed in this country, anytime, any where" is as preposterous as anything you have ever said - and that covers a lot because just about everything that comes out of that gnat-sized brain of yours is preposterous. Yes, anyone can get treated for an emergency at most emergency rooms and then sent home as soon as you are "stabilized." But if you require ongoing treatment or you are diagnosed with a serious illness such as heart disease or cancer or diabetes or any one of many others that afflict people, then you are sh#t out of luck. You have to be completely lost in your la-la land of make-believe and lies to make a statement as stupid as you just made. But then, considering who said it, that comes as no surprise.

"And there was no end in site until George W. Bush had the courage to put an end to it."

Saddam was killing those folks in the late 80's and early 90's. We already went to war with Iraq over those murders. G. W. Bush didn't have the courage to put an end to anything. All that stuff was over.

"WMDs had been used by Saddam Hussien. The U.S. was not the only country to believe that he STILL had the weapons."

Anyone that still believed Iraq had WMD's was probably lead on by the lies the Bush administration perpetuated. Every supposed "fact" about Iraqi WMD's was based on conjecture and outright lies. Saddam gave up on WMD's in 1991.

"The number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last DECADE is roughly equivalent to the number of children aborted in the U.S. EVERY DAY."

Abortions per day: ~3,300. United States soldiers killed in both wars: 6,570.

What kind of idiot math are you doing exactly? You seem to be rationalizing the war in Iraq so does that mean you can rationalize those abortions too? Are you drawing another false equivalency between abortions and war? Is this the new WingNut tactic? To act like things done under WingNut Presidents are equivalent to things supported and done under non-WingNut Presidents? LMFAO! Your deception and blatant ignorance knows no bounds.

Like I stated in an earlier post to Loser Librul, there are those that can't cut it in our, competitive, free market society and although I think there are a lot of "posers" out there riding the safety net through life like you Rickaroo, sometimes losers have to be taken care of and you certainly have your guy in Barry The Welfare Pimp. As for 50 million uninsured, does that still justify turning the entire system over to a lame duck, teleprompter reading, campaigner in chief, when over 250 million people are paying for healthcare through the private sector and loving it? No, Obamacare is simply a government money grab and our great healthcare system will be trashed. The healthcare stats you like to quote...WORST IN THE WORLD FOR ACCESSIBILITY are crap. What countries are you talking about....Denmark, where 99% of the population is white.....the UK....good luck on the wait list for that heart procedure.....Cuba...? Really? No Rickaroo, you are a weak, soft, mind numbed, somewhere over the rainbow, liberal who refuses to accept the fact that FREEDOM is the greatest gift government can provide its people and eventually we will get back on track when we put people like you back in your cynical, central planning, utopian, dispicable, outhouse of history. A system that has the best medical education system in the world.....THE AMERICAN FOR PROFIT PRIVATE SECTOR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. I think if we would all read the communist manifesto, we would realize what is happening to us. Go ahead, give it a gander.

degage,

"your remark that Max must have down syndrome was uncalled for."

No, it wasn't.

"just like a liberal to put down a group of people not like them."

I didn't put down any group. Just like a WingNut to lie about things that are easily discernible.

"You are a hypocrite, always acting like you are for the underdog then saying something like that."

I'm not a hypocrite. I've done nothing hypocritical. And I've never acted like I was for the underdog either. You're the hypocrite. I've proven that many times over.

"Shame on you."

Shame on you for every misguided attempt to call me a hypocrite. I get it. You're butt hurt that I point out your hypocrisy. But your sanctimonious bullsh!t isn't going to work around here. You only feign outrage when people that aren't on your side do things that you perceive as wrong or unfair. That is your hypocrisy. I've made that very clear.

jesse,

"Downs syndrome is an act of nature"

I didn't know chromosome abnormalities were "acts of nature".

"being an arzhole is a matter of choice!"

I believe it coming from the King Arzhole himself.

jesse,

"I could have said "an act of God" BUT !"

Only a real prick of a deity would give children Down Syndrome. Yet, people still believe and worship a deity that does that very thing.

"Actually i was kinda at a loss as to how to phrase it!"

One possible phrase could be "genetic condition".

"But i knew you would catch it!!lol"

Stop riding my coattails.

Easy 123.....your expansive use of high school vocabulary words is a clue taking me to the conclusion that you are an over achieving factory worker with a G.E.D. Did I "characterize" you right?

Minimus, my dear, why is it that you have such a need to compensate? There must have been something really scary in your life.

Maximusty,

"your expansive use of high school vocabulary words"

The fact that you think vocabulary is taught in high school leads me to believe you're a witless idiot. Combine that with your poor grammar, terrible punctuation and your need to put words like characterize in quotations, you might be MR. I would go so far as to say you open-mouth kiss farm animals on occasion.

"you are an over achieving factory worker with a G.E.D."

How would my vocabulary lead you to that conclusion? Flesh that logic out. LMFAO!

"Did I "characterize" you right?"

No.
