The Hangover

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

What haters these liberals are--see cartoon. We've lived 400 years since Jamestown without O'Romneycare, and it's gotta be implemented THIS MONTH. It's not working now, it's missed half its deadlines so far, and it's gotta be implemented THIS MONTH. 7/8 of new jobs under this President are part-time jobs that avoid O'Romneycare's 30-hour limit, and it's gotta be implemented THIS MONTH or the economy'll go down the drain. Reagan and a GOP Senate and a Demo House in '86 required emergency rooms to treat anyone, but O'Romneycare gotta be implemented THIS MONTH. Who's mugging who? Senator Reid mugging kids with cancer?

Hey, if the demographics are going to elect Democrats down the road--if the triumph of racism, or at least groupism, aided by vote-buying, is inevitable--why not wait?

Candidate Obama was against the individual mandate and for negotiations on C-Span. You can keep your doctor. "Period." And your plan. "Period." (Michelle Malkin article: "Obama lied. My health plan died.") O'care was passed crookedly and perhaps unconstitutionally: the Senate wrote the bill, which raised taxes. The outfit that gave us Dred Scott, 7-2, and Plessy vs Ferguson, 7-1, upheld it 5-4. Scott lasted 11 years or so, Plessy 58 or so, and O'care has lasted 3. Would either half of Congress dare submit O'care to the real economic democracy of making it purely optional?

In contrast to this gang of thugs, despite Democratic opposition to the Part D legislation, Democrats didn't just refuse to obstruct Bush's wildly unpopular and completely unfunded $400 billion windfall for insurers and pharmaceutical firms. In Washington and in the states, Democrats helped ensure the successful implementation of a Republican program whose 2006 launch even John Boehner acknowledged was "horrendous."

Anniebelle, the vote took place in 2003, It was implemented in 2006 and 7. There are claims Bush stole the idea from the democrats and democrats voted against it because it was being brought to a vote by republicans. Just claims, but you can see the democrats do the same thing you claim the republicans do. Fast forward, now most democrats in congress think it was a good bill. They must because the passed the ACA.

At the time that bill was implemented I was not happy about it and I still have my reservations about it. It seemed to me as a senior it was a must to get it, kinda like the ACA.

Yes that is the fear but you simply are not smart enough along with the rest of the Obamadon'tcare supporters to realize what you should be afraid of!

All the people who are in immediate need of health insurance along with prescription coverage will be enrolling in a Platinum Plan. To that, yes O'care will be a huge success. {I'm still laughing at your comment.} Who will not enroll will be the young taxpayers who are healthy that cannot afford the cost and will pay a penalty, but not until tax time, {deduction from their tax return.} They will continue to go about their business without coverage. Now the people who so desperately need coverage will have it. The one question I ask all the OBC supporters to answer is how will it be paid for and who is going to pay for it?

tifosio, you first please, but not until you sober up and go clean your toilet. Yes the silver handle on the tank is there for a reason. I know, the sign should instruct you to "PUSH DOWN HERE." I don't know why those stupid, irresponsible Republicans didn't think to do their job properly instructing you as to the correct operation of such a complicated technological wonder so your house doesn't smell like a S#@T HOLE? I'm sure the "CRAPPER" is new to you as they most likely didn't have such wonders in the hills of Oakridge. Welcome to the civilized world. It just takes a little getting used to. Perhaps a spot of Earl Grey Tea would help? Try it, you may come to like it? Remember, pinky up!!!

THE END {How come you're not laughing}

Just a bit of trivia. The flush toilet was refined by Thomas Crapper but was the invention of Sir John Harington. Both British by the way. Thomas Crapper was never given the designation of Sir as he was never knighted. I have heard people refer to him as Sir Thomas Crapper but perhaps they are simply frustrated internet poker players wishing desperately for a "ROYAL FLUSH." Kind of like people wishing OBC will be such a glowing success. Good luck with that too!!! Please, Please, Please,,,, Always remember to flush!

Does this mean you didn't enroll in Medicare D and you pay for any prescribed medicine or you pay for a private policy? Obama says the only thing wrong with it is it doesn't do enough. How can you support the AHA and not the same type thing for prescriptions?

I don't care if Obama care passes or not. I don't care if non essential government functions never open again or not and that tax money is saved but I don't care if they do reopen and blow hell out of the money.

It sounds like you oppose anything republican and you support anything democrat. Remember at the midnight hour democrats while controlling the house and senate rushed the AHA through without reading it. It had hand written changes throughout and notes in the margins so no one really knew what was in it and many still don't. As a result several democrats were voted out of the house republicans became the majority and Boehner replaced Pelosi as speaker.

Those elected are doing what they were elected to do and you say their actions are treasonous and call for them being charged as criminals. Are you suggesting once congress passes a law it shall never be removed as a law, it shall never be altered or made different than it's original form? Obama has by edict made fifteen changes or exceptions, granted exemptions and extensions which you think is ok but no one else can question the law?

anniebelle....Your prejudices are showing. Are you a Putin fan?

My only suggestion would be increase taxes on everyone enough to have revenue equal spending. Require everyone to pay a minimum tax or have assets seized and owned by the government until assets are zero and those individuals become totally government dependent. It is too easy to demand things when the cost is not felt by those making the demands.

I have been listening to the plight of 3 households awaiting the OBC rollout. I had a chance to visit the particulars of all three and the results are mixed.

The first and happiest is a 60 year old single female that is self employed earning @ $25,000 and has health issues she cannot afford to pay to remedy. Very sad indeed. She is the one who is going to enroll but has for some reason not done so at this time. She priced the Platinum plan and is eligible for the subsidy which will bring her plan according to the website to $48.00 weekly or $2490.00 per year. It is hardship for her but in her case the benefit will be tremendous.

The second is a young family and the father works for an employer who provides a policy that is Obamadon'tcare Approved. The fact that the employer does provide an approved plan disqualifies them from receiving any subsidies. The cost to him as an individual is $20 weekly but to add the wife and child brings the cost to over $800 per month. They do not have $10,000 annually to afford coverage so they are considering divorcing so the mother and their child would qualify for subsidized health insurance. A not so Happy Ending. It will be interesting to see if language involving providing health care insurance will be written into divorce laws soon to avoid this from happening.

The third is a friend who needs coverage to cover medication necessary for his diabetes. Unfortunately he falls into the same situation as the young couple. His wife has coverage at her work at a reasonable cost so the option is to pay up or do without.

Now this is not a scientific poll but the people I know who need insurance, only one will qualify and of the healthy young people I know without health care insurance none of them are considering the exchange for insurance. Maybe an apple a day would be a good idea!

The Affordable Health Care act will likely spawn a lot of new business start-ups. That is what our economy needs. But, the RWNJ's don't want that to happen under the current administration. Political agendas are more important than America.

"Bob Galinsky, a sole-proprietor business owner in Neenah, said that was a major consideration when he left Kimberly-Clark to start GeoToys. In the end, he accepted having pre-existing conditions written out of his coverage.

Normally, in the wake of a recession, new-business startups are a key driver in the recovery. Mark Higgins, regional president of Johnson Bank, says in the wake of the 2007-09 recession, that’s been limited at best.

Health insurance is not the only reason, but it’s always a critical factor, especially if you have a family. Not every entrepreneur with a great business idea is willing to take the risk."

Only private hospitals give you a once over making sure you are breathing and have a pulse and tell you to hit the road. The rest welcome you just like a paying patient, give you the basic remedy and then tell you time is up. Now if you have proper health care insurance they may allow you stay for another day or three. Three does come after two, doesn't it. Im askin u caus u is so smart.

This law, Obamadon'tcare, if made mandatory would make health care prices lower with everyone being a paying customer so explain how this is gunna happen Mr. Know It All!!

I'm not sure with 100% participation if prices would go down though. Remember when gas hit $4.00 a gallon for the first time. The grocery store raised prices @ 10%. Gas went down and prices continued to rise. Gas again approached the 4 dollar mark and again the cry from the grocery chain was that we must raise prices because gas went up. Now I know I'm not smart like you but I thought when gas returned to close to $2.00 a gallon prices would have been returned to pre $4.00 gas. Somehow that never happened and every time it approaches $4.00 they claim prices must go up because of fuel costs. It's probably just my simple mind trin to think 2 much.

Perhaps you have never worked for yourself. You like many others throw around the word entrepreneur as if it is some guarantee of the success of the individual and America. The simple reason self employment and business start ups are down from the make believe success of the 2000's is because people have less money, if any and much less availability to credit. Without money and the velocity of it thru the business world it suggests one thing. There are less customers and with that comes failing businesses. Anyone you know interested in throwing their life savings into such a venture? Wait until the Huge Internet Retailers like Amazon become the first line of shopping for Americans and people no longer drive to the mall or department store for their needs and wants.

Ten million and five: One to go to Wal-Mart and buy a lightbulb (and a gun because he’s going to the store anyway), one to scoff at global climate change, one to draw a rally poster making fun of Al Gore, one to complain about the socialist conspiracy to bring light to all Americans, one to change the bulb, and 10 million to sit in the dark even though the light is on.

Did you hear about the new e-Beck from Amazon? When you click “download” it whines about socialism for an hour and then breaks into tears.

What’s the difference between Cinemax After Dark and a tea bag convention? One’s a show about people who are agitated over stimulus packages and the other is a group of people with their mouths full of balls.

It's clear that there are many people who are fearful that ObamaCare will prove, in time, to be successful in signing up those in need of health care insurance.

There is a difference in something being popular with the recipients and it being “successfully” sustained by the producers. There will always be plenty of takers for “giveaways”.

Right now, all the anti-Obamans are scouring the web for any shred of evidence that ObamaCare is not off to a good start and they link to each and every article, presenting it as if it were scripture from a Bible.

And just like clockwork.

CNN reported that Bryan Tackett, 33, was amazed .....

Clearly, the biggest glitch is the fact that the site has crashed numerous times due to the sheer number of people attempting to access it at the same time.

”I didn’t see that coming” - typical ACA administrator.

When the initial interest levels off, successful numbers of people will be able to obtain successful enrollment.

Why did the tea party patriot miss the anti-tax meeting? She was too busy driving on taxpayer-funded roads, sending her kids to public school, living in a safe neighborhood, drinking clean water, breathing clean air, enjoying public parks, using public lands, buying safe products, eating inspected food, and enjoying countless other services funded by tax dollars, but this isn’t shaping up like much of a punch line, so let’s say she ate so many bologna and cheese Hot Pockets that she was too fat to fit into the public library meeting room.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and a tea party patriot walk into a bar. All of my beliefs are based on the principles of the Founding Fathers!” Jefferson says, “Indeed, I wrote, ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal’ while schtupping my slaves.” Washington says, “I too was a slaveholder. And as ‘father of our country,’ I led the military against my own citizens in the Whiskey Rebellion because they refused to pay taxes.” And Franklin says, “Yeah, I pretended to be a Puritan, yet rarely attended church and fathered an illegitimate son.” The bartender says, “So what you have in common is that you’re all hypocrites?” “No,” says Franklin. “What we have in common is that we’re all living in the 18th century.”

Tifosi, yup, gas went to $4.00in 2008 until September then it dropped back to $1.74 for the rest of the year into January when Obama took over. Obama claimed during his campaign " the American people would have accepted the rise if it had happened gradually." Since he took over it has risen gradually, in fact in some parts of the country it got to $5.00 a gal. Looks like he was right, people have accepted it as the norm of over $3.50 a gal. WE think we are getting a deal when it goes below $3.25.

The truth is that no president -- whether Democrat or Republican, "big oil" buddy or alternative fuel friend -- can do much of anything to affect the short-term price of oil, and therefore gasoline. The overriding factor that determines the price of oil from day to day is the market principle of supply and demand [source: U.S. Energy Information Administration]. It comes down to simple economics: When demand is greater than supply, prices rise.

And demand is growing. Emerging superpowers like China and India are approaching the U.S. in their appetite for oil. To further complicate matters, much of the world's oil supply is tied up in the politically unstable Middle East. Unrest in Syria and Libya, and embargoes against Iranian oil put a significant squeeze on the global supply [source: Sommer].

In contrast to this gang of thugs, despite Democratic opposition to the Part D legislation, Democrats didn't just refuse to obstruct ... (WTF does that mean?!?) Bush's wildly unpopular and completely unfunded $400 billion windfall for insurers and pharmaceutical firms.

At the start of the program in January 2006, it was expected that “11 million” people would be covered by Medicare Part D.

More than half of all Medicare beneficiaries “63%, or 32.0 million” are enrolled in Medicare Part D plans, as of September 2012.

Financing for Part D comes from general revenues, beneficiary premiums, and state contributions. It is not funded by medicare taxes but it is and has always been “on budget”.

Odd that you didn’t mention the greater windfall Obama gave to insurers and pharmaceutical firms to support the passage of Obamacare.

Anniebelle why do you accept this free market principle where oil and gas prices are concerned but not other goods and services? The same principle applies to health care if the government did not intervene and distort the markets and allow insurance companies to do the same thing. Legislation or the law should be that a provider has to charge any recipient of a service they provide them the same price. The patient would have something to compare to when selecting a provider. The other critical components would be to assure adequate physicians and facilities and no collusion of pricing. Prices would drop drastically and quality improve significantly. The law of supply and demand never fails to keep prices under control with good quality. Why did GM and Chrysler go bankrupt and Ford had a near miss? Their product cost too much, their quality was inferior, their service was second rate so the competition kicked their butt.

Why have TV's, cell phones and other electronics continued to cost less? Why do some other goods and services operate with razor thin profit margins? It is called competition, free market capitalism. Reasonable regulations and government audits to assure compliance will work where price collusion among providers is a crime and all users pay a provider the same price, no favorites, side agreements or volume discounts for healthcare. The government's dictated Medicare rates and insurance companies negotiated rates have warped and distorted healthcare cost.

To hope for such is like trying to raise the ocean level by one person pissing in it since no politician will give up their control and ability to manipulate things and people plus people are scared to death to let go of the tit.
