Expert will try to cap methane well fire

MCMINNVILLE, Tenn. — A well expert from Texas arrived here this afternoon to begin capping a methane well fire.

The blaze ignited Monday morning while well drillers were installing a geothermal heating and cooling system.

Escaping methane gas ignited about 11 a.m. yesterday, city fire officials said. The small fire was located in a residential subdivision on the west side of McMinnville.

A well driller from Pikeville, Tenn., was burned on his hands and arms, fire officials said. No one else was hurt, officials said.
