EPB officials this morning said they would not build a cable television service unless Chattanooga residents supported it.

“We want public input,” said EPB President Harold DePriest. “If the community wants this we will build it.”

Mr. DePriest said that the utility would not build the fiber to the home system if the public spoke against it. However, the public has been in favor of fiber to the home so far, said EPB board Chairman Joe Ferguson.

Mr. DePriest said he understood Comcast’s decision to file suit against EPB’s fiber to the home plan, but was “disappointed.”

EPB officials said the public was welcome to call EPB or send e-mails to them through the company’s Web site.
