Chattanooga police responded to three accidents involving motorcycles during a 30-minute period around 1 p.m. today. One incident at 3500 Hixson Pike sent a man to the hospital with two broken legs and several severe lacerations to his legs, Chattanooga police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary stated in a news release.
The motorcyclist was traveling north on Hixson Pike when a vehicle traveling south allegedly turned in front of him, according to police. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and was cited for the illegal turn.
Two other accidents involving motorcycles occurred at 4600 Highway 153 between Amnicola and Highway 58 and 6100 Bonny Oaks at Jersey Pike. They did not result in serious injury, Sgt. Weary said.
The Chattanooga Police Department is asking drivers to be mindful of motorcycles and scooters on the roadway, especially as temperatures warm and the price of gas rises, Sgt. Weary said.
Drivers are encouraged to limit their distractions while driving and be sure to look out for motorcyclists, she said.
