University of Tennessee at Chattanooga: Lady Mocs sign Grundy grad Rollins

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team added to its inside depth Tuesday with the signing of Megan Rollins, a 6-foot-1 forward from Walters State Community College in Morristown.

A former all-state player at Grundy County High School, Rollins averaged 7.1 points and 4.4 rebounds for the Lady Senators, who went 30-6 and advanced to the NJCAA Division I national tournament for the second straight season.

Lady Mocs coach Wes Moore said Rollins is a player in the mold of Erin Ogan and Kristen Spann, forwards who can compete and defend in the paint and step outside and knock down 3-pointers. Spann was one of UTC’s five seniors this season, while Ogan has one more year.

“With the graduation of Spann, we felt like we needed another forward like that,” Moore said.

Rollins shot 38 percent from 3-point range this season and 47 percent from the floor. One of her best games of the season came against Chattanooga State on Feb. 10, when she was 10-for-12 from the floor, including three 3s, in a 26-point performance.

“I’m excited about the chance to play at UTC,” said Rollins, the Lady Mocs’ sixth signee. “I looked at Martin Methodist, but I knew I was supposed to go to UTC.”
