McMinn County traffic victim identified

ATHENS, Tenn. — The man who died in a fiery crash early this morning has been identified as Robert Marler, 63, of Rocky Mount Road in Athens.

Athens police Capt. Rob Davis said Mr. Marler’s car left State Route 30 about 5:30 a.m. and hit a bridge abutment at the intersection with Interstate 75. No information was available about why the crash occurred, but Capt. Davis said Mr. Marler was trapped in the car.

The Athens Fire Department responded to the crash but firefighters were unable to save the driver.

The highway was blocked for several hours but traffic is moving again, officials said.
