Greg Trooper in Studio ’99
Filed by Sean Phipps
I recall an evening spent in Nashville in 2004 at a wonderful Richard Thompson solo show. I hadn’t planned on going to the show at all, but I eventually gave in and bought a ticket for myself. Opening the show was a singer/songwriter named Greg Trooper. I knew nothing about him and, honestly, wasn’t expecting very much. He promptly took the stage and just blew me away with his songs about depressed women and heartache. I was a Greg Trooper fan from then on. So, when I found out a few weeks ago he was going to be performing at Charles & Myrtle’s Coffeehouse I figured it would be wise to have him perform on the TFP MUSICcast. And what a MUSICcast it turned out to be!
More shows that might pique your interest:
Abbey Road Live, the ultimate Beatles cover band, returns on the 40th Anniversary of the “Magical Mystery Tour” album. They’ll take the stage at Rhythm n’ Brews and perform the entire album plus a bevy of other Beatles’ tunes. Tickets are $12. Showtime is 9:30 p.m.
The son of Americana legend Steve Earle, Justin Townes Earle, will be at JJ’s Bohemia on Saturday night. Don’t tell Steve, but Justin might just be a better singer AND songwriter than his dad. Find out for yourself. Showtime is 10 p.m.
Tickets for both Jackson Browne (3/11) and Robert Plant/Alison Krauss (4/23) are on sale at Chattanooga.gov
Have a great weekend!
