Glossary visits Studio ’99
Filed by Sean Phipps
This week, we have the pleasure of listening to a wonderful band from Mufreesboro, Tenn., called Glossary. The band formed nearly a decade ago and has been going strong since, despite some shifting in members. Their latest release “The Better Angels of our Nature” is available for free download at their Web site. On the MUSICcast, we’ll talk about why they’re offering the album for free, what a Glossary live show is like and how themes of the south permeate their sound. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one.
My top live music picks for the week:
It’s the annual Johnny Cash Birthday celebration tonight at Rhythm & Brews. Channing Wilson, Davey Smith and more will cover all the hits from the Man in Black. Showtime is 10 p.m. Tickets are $10
JJ’s Bohemia will be rocking tonight with 4 bands for the price of one: Giant Tigers, The Cheat, Royal Bangs & Night of the Wolf will perform. Tickets are $5 at the door. Showtime is 10 p.m.
Saturday night at JJ’s Bohemia, The Unsatisfied will make a rare appearance in Chattanooga. If you like your music raw and loud with a little androgyny to boot, this is the show for you. Tickets are $5. Showtime is 10 p.m.
Sunday at 2 p.m. “The Big Brew Fest” will begin at Midtown Music Hall. This is a benefit concert for local musician/drum technician Bill Brewer. Recently, Bill was diagnosed with Ischemic Optic Neuropathy. Bands performing include: Dexter Thomas Band, Crossfire Band, Leaving Miss Blue and many, many more. Tickets are $10.
Have a fun and safe weekend.
