Chattanooga police seek help in apprehending Montez Menifee

Chattanooga police are asking the public to help track down a man they believe firebombed a house and a car during last week’s one-night crime wave.

Law enforcement arrested Montez Menifee on Wednesday night and booked him into the Hamilton County Jail on probation violation charges.

The alleged fire bombing occurred just hours after the fatal stabbing of LaTony Johnson in the East Lake Courts public housing complex. Police have named a separate suspect in the stabbing.

Agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives wanted Mr. Menifee held until they filed federal charges, but the suspect was released on bond Thursday.

Now, law enforcement is asking for anyone with information on Mr. Menifee’s whereabouts to call police at 643-5000 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 698-3333.
