Georgia suspends Lemon
Georgia sophomore defensive end Michael Lemon was suspended indefinitely from the team Thursday as a result of his arrest on a felony charge.
Lemon was charged Wednesday by Athens-Clarke County police with misdemeanor battery and felony aggravated battery for an incident last Saturday in which he allegedly punched a fellow student several times and fractured his eye. Georgia’s athletic association policy specifies that any felony arrest results in immediate and indefinite suspension pending an investigation.
“I’m certainly disappointed in a few of our players who have made poor decisions during the offseason,” coach Mark Richt said in a released statement. “It is of great concern, and we take it very seriously. They will be dealt with accordingly and will pay a price. Each one will be disciplined based on the severity of their actions.”
Richt announced that sophomore guard Clint Boling will be suspended for the first two games this season as a result of his May DUI arrest in Alpharetta. Senior defensive end Jeremy Lomax may not have to face a suspension after authorities exonerated him from June charges of carrying a concealed weapon.
