Developer Roy Williams received approval today from planning officials to move ahead with a $3 million to $5 million fraternity row complex in the M.L. King neighborhood.

The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission endorsed rezoning the site at the 1100 blocks of East 10th and East 11th streets from low-density residential to a higher density use. The Chattanooga City Council must endorse the plans next month, and a zoning variance board must approve the site for use by fraternities and sororities.

Mr. Williams said he hoped to begin construction sometime this year. Pi Kappa Alpha, Kappa Delta and Alpha Delta Pi have expressed interest in the project, he said.
