Southeast Tennessee: Storms blowing through area

Severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter size hail and 60 mph winds are blowing through Southeast Tennessee and a severe thunderstorm watch is in affect until 8 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are currently in effect for Hamilton and Marion counties, according the NWS.

Storms have already caused severe damage, blowing down trees and power lines in Dunlap, Tenn., Mayor George Wagner said.

“We have had one heck of a storm,” he said. “We have trees down everywhere within one city block.”

He said the city has no power and city crews were working to clear streets.

A worker at Forrest Cate Ford in Dunlap said a part of the dealership’s roof had blown off. She said she could not talk because repairs were still being made.
