An e-mail sent Sunday from ousted Signal Mountain Town Councilman Bob Linehart to supporters of incumbent District 2 school board member Chip Baker outlined reasons voters should oppose the candidacy of Mr. Baker's opponent, Joe Dumas. Among the accusations were that Dr. Dumas did not support the new Signal Mountain Middle-High School and that he did support gay marriage, the legalization of marijuana and handguns in schools. A forwarded version of the e-mail made its way to Dr. Dumas' inbox, and he released it to the media, he said Wednesday, speaking to reporters and editors at the Times Free Press.

Chip Baker has served our district well. By my count, there are 5 new/revitalized(Red Bank Elementary, Signal Mountain Middle & High, Red Bank Middle, and Normal Park Middle) schools in progress or finished in District 2. TCAP scores over the past few years are the highest than any other district in Hamilton County with several schools scoring in top 5% in the state.
On the other hand, Joe Dumas was against the new high school on Signal Mountain and his political views don't play well in our district as evidence to his four defeats over the past years in local elections.
Chip Baker is the right candidate for District 2. He doesn't advocate legalizing drugs like Joe Dumas and will continue to keep district 2 the best in the county.
