Tennessee picked third in SEC East, Florida picked to take conference title

The Georgia Bulldogs may be receiving the most national attention among Southeastern Conference football teams this summer, but the Florida Gators were picked this morning at SEC Media Days as the team to beat in the league.

Urban Meyer’s Gators were picked to defeat Auburn in the SEC title game.

Florida received 45 of 70 first-place votes in the East to outdistance Georgia, which had 23, and Tennessee, which had the remaining two. The Vols also were picked third in the East last season but won it.

South Carolina, Kentucky and Vanderbilt rounded out the East finish.

Auburn was picked over defending national champion LSU in the West, with Tommy Tuberville’s Tigers outdistancing Les Miles’ Tigers 48-21 in first-place votes. The other first-place vote went to Ole Miss, which was picked fifth overall.

Alabama was tabbed third in the West, Mississippi State fourth and Arkansas sixth.

Offensive lineman Anthony Parker, running back Arian Foster, linebacker Rico McCoy and defensive back Eric Berry were tabbed first-team All-SEC for Tennessee. Georgia had two first-team representatives with running back Knowshon Moreno and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe.
