Tennessee-Georgia: All-star series resumes

The annual Sportsman’s Warehouse all-star series began with a jolt Saturday night, kicked off by the Tennessee-Georgia football game at Finley Stadium. The six-sport series continues tonight with recently graduated local prep all-stars from the two states facing each other in a baseball game at AT&T Field at 6 p.m.

Because players from both states have followed the accomplishments of not only only teammates but players from the opposing state as well. The close proximity of the athletes on each side has helped build a natural rivalry.

Saturday’s football game once again proved that this series is already more intense than any other summer all-star series for former prep players. For the second time in the five-year history of the football series, the benches cleared late in Saturday’s game, leading game officials to call the game.

The girls’ basketball game will tip off Tuesday, June 10 at 6 p.m. at Notre Dame, with the boys’ game to follow that night. There will also be a 3-point shooting contest for girls and a dunk contest for boys on both rosters.

The best-of-five match will take place at Ridgeland High School on Thursday, June 12 at 7 p.m. and that same night at Dalton, the soccer match will begin at 6. The softball game will be played June 18 at Frost Stadium.
