Tennessee Board of Regents will propose a 6 percent tuition increase

Staff at the Tennessee Board of Regents will propose a 6 percent tuition increase at its four-year universities and two-year community colleges, which includes Chattanooga State, starting in the next school year, according to board documents.

The Board of Regents finance committee will discuss the proposed tuition increase today at a meeting in Nashville, where members will vote whether to present the increase to the full board at a meeting later this month.

The Board of Regents is considering tuition increases to offset a $55 million cut from the state’s higher-education operating budget, officials said.

The University of Tennessee system already has announced that they will limit tuition increases to 6 percent.
