Tennessee: TSSAA adopts “Z Plan” for prep football reclassification

The TSSAA Board of Control on Wednesday, in a 5-4 vote, passed the recommendation to begin using the “Z Plan” option for reclassification of high school football teams beginning in the 2009 school year. This plan will carry through 2012 and will have teams broken into three classifications in the regular season and expanding into six classifications for the playoffs, meaning there will be six Division I state champions and two Division II state champions.

The board also passed, in a 6-3 vote, a plan to keep the 1.8 multiplier for private schools who elect to play in Division I, which will mean that Boyd-Buchanan will remain in Class 2A.
