The city council and mayor of Fort Oglethorpe will hold a called meeting Tuesday to narrow a list of city manager applicants to three finalists, and to discuss the streetscape project on LaFayette Road.
Council members must pare city manager candidates to three before the names can be made public, but discussion of those applicants will be in closed executive session, Mayor Ronnie Cobb said.
City officials are allowed to meet in a session closed to the public to discuss personnel, land acquisition or to receive legal advice.
Meanwhile, City Council members will discuss concerns about the planned $800,000 upgrade and streetscape enhancement project on a segment of LaFayette Road near the Chickamauga Battlefield entrance.
Some property and business owners this week raised issues with the plan, which includes narrowing the road from four traffic and one turn lane to two traffic lanes with diagonal parking on the sides.
Property owner Steve Dilbeck said he opposes that plan and reducing the speed limit to 25 mph. He presented council members with petitions bearing 1,350 signatures stating opposition to the project.
City officials have worked for years to bundle together $800,000 in federal, state, county and city funding to enhance the area.
Part of the funding is from a $300,000 federal Transportation Enhancement Act grant.
The project covers part of what used to be U.S. Highway 27 in the south business district before the highway was rerouted around the west side of the battlefield.
