Deputy injured in East Hamilton County crash
A Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy, and as many as six other motorists, were injured in a afternoon crash on Bonny Oaks Drive in Chattanooga, according to a city police official.
The crash happened just after 5 p.m. in the intersection of Bonny Oaks Drive and Jenkins Road right next to Interstate 75. The deputy, whose name was not released, was involved in a T-bone crash and was trapped for a brief period.
His injuries were confined to his legs, but those were not life-threatening, said Lt. Kim Noorbergen, Chattanooga police spokeswoman. She said as many as six other motorists were injured in the crash, but their injuries were also not life-threatening.
Traffic investigators remained on the scene just before 7 p.m., according to Lt. Max Templeton, sheriff’s department spokesman.

I saw that accident. Both the Sheriff's car and a gray mini-van were flipped completely upside down. South bound traffic was diverted onto I-75 north, sending a mass of cars onto the freeway, headed for exit 11 to return to the southbound lanes. The wreck was so severe it seemed that someone surely must have died; I am so relieved and thankful that people were only injured. Thank God for seat belts and air bags.
