Personalities and Job Changes

Life Care Centers promotes McCarthy

Dee McCarthy has been promoted to senior vice president of clinical services by Cleveland, Tenn.-based Life Care Centers of America.

She previously served as division director of clinical services for Life Care’s Southeast division, based in Florida. She will now oversee the clinical operations of Life Care’s more than 220 skilled nursing facilities across the country.

She has been with Life Care for six years and is a 34-year veteran of the health care business. She is a registered nurse.

She has a daughter and three grandchildren.

Selvidge earns certification

John Selvidge, Cleveland, Tenn., area service manager with Volunteer Energy Cooperative, has earned loss control certification.

He completed a program in electric utility safety and loss control. A news release said the loss control internship is a series of workshops offered by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in conjunction with the National Utility Training & Safety Education Association.

“We are very proud of John’s accomplishments and this represents another boost to our efforts to be leaders in the electric utility industry,” said VEC President/CEO Rody Blevins.

Mr. Selvidge joined VEC in 1986 and became the cooperative’s Cleveland area service manager in 2006. He is a Tennessee Valley Public Power Association instructor and teaches advanced lineman training.

Utility association honors Albright

Ray Albright, an independent lobbyist who started his lobbying efforts for the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts in 2000, has been honored by the association by being named to its Wall of Fame.

Mr. Albright is a former banker in Chattanooga and served for years as a Republican state senator from Hamilton County.

Mr. Albright is a director of the hospital authority that oversees Erlanger Medical Center.

He and his wife, Phyllis, have two children and three grandchildren.

The Tennessee Association of Utility Districts is a nonprofit organization serving Tennessee’s water, wastewater and natural gas utilities in hands-on training and technical assistance.

Creswell elected to Georgia Bar board

C. Celeste Creswell has been elected to serve on the board of governors of the 40,000-member State Bar of Georgia.

She is a member of the law firm of Miller & Martin PLLC and will serve in the Out of State, Post 2 seat, on the board.

She is a graduate of Berry College and the University of Georgia School of Law. She was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1997.

The State Bar of Georgia, based in Atlanta and with one satellite office in Tifton and another to be located in Savannah, was established in 1964 by the Supreme Court of Georgia. All lawyers licensed to practice in Georgia belong to the State Bar, a news release said.

Schwartz in key role at Heitman

Harold A. “Skip” Schwartz III, a senior vice president with Heitman LLC, has become the newest member of the firm’s Asia-Pacific operations, based in Tokyo. Heitman is a multinational real estate investment management firm.

A news release said Mr. Schwartz will focus on developing Heitman’s private equity investment business across the Asia-Pacific region, including sourcing and evaluating real estate investments and joint venture opportunities.

He is a graduate of Baylor School of Chattanooga and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University. He is currently completing the Duke Goethe Executive MBA program.

Attorney Leitner is given award

Attorney Paul R. Leitner, senior member of the law firm of Leitner, Williams, Dooley and Napolitan PLLC, has been presented the Workers Achievement Award by the Trial Attorneys of America.

A news release said the award is given to an attorney who shows commitment and loyalty to the organization that is made up of lawyers who give a substantial amount of their practice to the defense of product liability litigation.

Lewis joins Husch’s health care group

David T. Lewis, former chief legal counsel of Erlanger Health System, has joined Husch Blackwell Sanders LLP in Chattanooga as a partner in the firm’s health care practice group.

Mr. Lewis most recently was vice president and general counsel of Roper St. Francis Healthcare in Charleston, S.C. From 2000 to 2004, he served as general counsel and chief legal officer for St. Mary’s Health System Inc. in Knoxville.

He was also engaged in the private practice of law in Knoxville representing hospitals, physician groups and other health providers and began his career in health care at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

He is past chairman of the health law section of the Tennessee Bar Association.

Mr. Lewis received his law degree from the University of Tennessee in 1984. He clerked for the Tennessee Supreme Court in 1984 and 1985.
