CLEVELAND, Tenn. — A judge this morning reinstated former Cleveland City Council member Rod Davis’ right to work as a bonding agent while he awaits trial for felony theft.

Judge Amy Reedy suspended Mr. Davis’ bonding privileges April 7 because he did not promptly notify the court that he was charged with a felony. Bondsmen are required to report felony charges within 72 hours, Judge Reedy said.

The accusation came after Mr. Davis, a candidate for the Cleveland Board of Education, accepted property as security for a bond.

But this morning, the judge said Mr. Davis wasn’t charged with a felony under the original indictment because it didn’t specify the amount he was accused of stealing.

Mr. Davis was formally charged today with felony theft over $10,000.

The judge asked Mr. Davis to decline all media interviews until after his trial. A trial date should be set before Mr. Davis’ next status hearing on June 16, Judge Reedy said.
