Georgia lineup easy: five golfers in top 41

Georgia golf coach Chris Haack has a much easier time deciding who gets playing time than football coach Mark Richt.

The five best scores during team competition qualify for the tournaments.

“The low score always win,” Haack said. “It’s not like I have to evaluate who’s a good pulling guard or who’s throwing it the best or who’s tackling. The low scores go.”

The Bulldogs are seeded No. 1 for the NCAA East Regional that begins Thursday at Chattanooga’s Council Fire Golf Club.

Without a senior, juniors Brian Harman and Adam Mitchell, a former McCallie standout, are captains. Former Baylor star Harris English began the year in the lineup, dropped out and won the Brickyard Invitational playing as an individual and then returned to the lineup. He was second-team All-SEC and the league freshman of the year.

Mitchell was first-team All-SEC and is ranked 10th in the NCAA by Golfweek. Russell Henley is 16th, Hudson Swafford 24th, English 26th and Harman 41st.

“My feeling is let’s go up there and try to win,” Haack said. “If we’re trying to win, getting in the top 10 and moving on should take care of itself.”
