Chattanooga Housing Authority to sell property to help budget shortfall

Chattanooga Housing Authority officials are attempting to sell its Grove Street Center commercial property, the James A. Henry Family Resource Center and three of its vacant lots to help make up for its $4.5 million budget shortfall.

“We’re just trying to look at all opportunities for CHA to generate additional funds,” said Cheryl Marsh, CHA’s public information coordinator. “At this point all options are on the table.”

CHA officials said they expect to close on the sell of the Grove Street Center within the next 30 days. The sale price is expected to be from $40,000 to $45,000, officials said. About $7,200 is expected from the sale of three vacant CHA lots, they said.

No sale price has been discussed for the James A. Henry Family Resource Center, officials said. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development would have to approve the sale because it includes the College Hill Courts housing development management office, officials said.

At a specially called CHA board meeting today, officials also officially accepted the resignation of Executive Director Bob Dull and named Elizabeth F. McCright, CHA’s chief operating officer, as interim executive director.

The sale of the CHA property is a part of the housing authority’s reorganization plan to return the agency to financial viability.
