Catoosa residents invited to see new digital flood maps

RINGGOLD, Ga. — Residents of Catoosa County and the cities of Ringgold and Fort Oglethorpe may get a look on Thursday at a new flood insurance study using digital technology maps.

Catoosa County Clerk Melissa Hannah said the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Federal Emergency Management Agency assisted in developing the information for the study.

The information will be shared during an “open house” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Catoosa County Administration Building, 800 LaFayette St., Ms. Hannah said.

Call County Clerk Melissa Hannah at (706) 965-2500 or e-mail to commissioners@catoosa.com.

The enhanced digital flood insurance rate map and flood insurance study has elevation profiles, charts and a narrative report of local flooding scenarios that will be used by permit officials for consideration of flood plain development, said Al Smith, Catoosa Public Works Authority board member.

“Property owners, people who live near the 100-year flood plain, Realtors, lenders and insurance agents, all these people will find this meeting informative,” Mr. Smith said.

He said the most current information on the county’s flood risk areas, flood insurance, flood plain development regulations and flood plain mapping will be provided.

The enhanced flood plain maps of the entire county, produced with information from aerial photographs and geographic information system technology, will be displayed.
