A fight involved five students at Howard High School a week ago ended with one being Tased by a school resource officer.
Shortly before 10:15 a.m. Oct. 27, five men began fighting on school property, said Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Janice Atkinson.
Four of the five students stopped fighting after ordered to do so, but one continued to act aggressively, even after school administration attempted to calm him.
The student used offensive language and acted aggressively toward students and teachers, Ms. Atkinson said. SRO Jamie Fields used his Taser to get the student under control.
The student was transported to Erlanger hospital to be checked by medical personnel, Ms. Atkinson said. The first four students involved in the fight were charged with disorderly conduct and transported to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center. Deputy Fields obtained attachments on the fifth student for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, Ms. Atkinson said.

I'd say chances are a lot better than even that the parent(s) of the student that was Tased will be up in arms about how their "baby" was treated. Whatever happened to "If you get in trouble at school, you'll be in worse trouble at home."? It is a sad comment on society that we even need resource officers in school at all. I thought it interesting, too, that the writer of the news item decided to call the students involved in the fight, "men." Since when does a 15 to 18 year kid still in high school qualify as a man?
You know, I am not opposed to the use of force (tasers) by people in authority (even on children) when necessary. However, if 4 out of the 5 students stopped fighting when ordered to do so, who was the 5th student fighting with. I hope this young person was actually being physically aggressive toward someone when he was tased. It would be a shame if he was tased simply for spouting off. Since it was only one student being unruly in the end I just have to wonder if there was not another way to end this. I to found it interesting that the article referred to these children as men when obviously they are not men yet or they would not be attending high school. Of course all of this is hard to judge unless you were there. I can remember being in many fights in my youth and it never took a police officer's taser to break it up. If there were no weapons involved it seems that some other method could have been used.
