Alabama-Florida winner will likely get Oklahoma in title game

If Alabama beats Florida in the SEC title game Saturday, the Crimson Tide’s likely opponent in the national championship game is Oklahoma, ranked second in the BCS standings released today. The Sooners (11-1) can advance to the BCS title game in Miami with a win over Missouri (9-3), which lost to Kansas yesterday, in the Big 12 championship Saturday.

Unbeaten Alabama is still ranked first. Oklahoma is second and Texas is third, breaking the tie and sending the Sooners a berth in the Big 12 championship game. Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech were all tied for first in the Big 12 South. The Sooners, who lost to Texas 45-35 in October, edged out the Longhorns by .9351 to .9223 in the BCS.

“I think they should break that three-way tie based on graduation rate. I think the Big 12 conference should have an executive session (immediately),” Texas Tech coach Mike Leach said after his team beat Baylor yesterday. “When they do that, they will find that no one’s more deserving than the Red Raiders.”

Florida is fourth in the BCS but second in the AP poll, setting up the first 1 vs. 2 match-up outside of the national title game since No. 1 Ohio State beat No. 2 Michigan 42-29 in 2006.
