Chattanooga: Early morning shooting kills 16-year-old boy, critically wounds 19-year-old

Police have learned the circumstances surrounding this morning's shooting that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy and critically injuring a 19-year-old man may be different than what the survivor originally told police.

Chattanooga police said two friends identified as Isaac Robinson, 16, and Michael Shadden, 19, both from East Chattanooga, were walking near Arrowhead Drive off North Moore Road searching for about one or two hours for a girl they knew when they encountered two men, according to a statement provided by Mr. Shadden.

The friends allegedly tried to purchase narcotics and were shot when the transaction went bad, said Lt. Tim Carroll, head of the major crimes division.

Mr. Robinson was shot in the chest, face, right shoulder and thigh and Mr. Shadden sustained gunshot wounds to his right shoulder, Lt. Carroll said.

Both walked toward Brainerd Road, where they found a motorist who took them to Parkridge East in East Ridge, Mr. Shadden told police.

They were then transported to Erlanger hospital. While in route, Mr. Robinson died about 2:15 a.m., Lt. Carroll said.

Mr. Shadden is listed in critical condition and was able to provide police with details of what he said happened.

Mr. Shadden told police the shooter had a handgun and wore a red T-shirt with shoulder length dreadlocks.

The other man was wearing a white T-shirt. Both men are black, police said.

Later in the day, Chattanooga police officials determined the crime scene was not in the Brainerd area but happened in another part of the county. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department is now handling the investigation with the aid of Chattanooga police.

Police are asking the public to call the department at 698-2525 if they have any information on the shooting.
