Wamp predicts bailout plan will pass
Included in this article
WASHINGTON — Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., said this morning that the Wall Street bailout bill has enough votes to pass.
House leaders are expected to bring the bill up for a vote early this afternoon.
“I believe there is enough movement on both sides” to pass the bill, Rep. Wamp said after leaving a meeting of House Republicans, according to Reuters.
Proponents of the bill need at least 12 House members to switch their “no” votes from Monday’s 228-205 defeat.
The Senate passed a revised version Wednesday night, 74-25.
The $700 billion bailout bill would allow the federal government to purchase distressed debt from shaky financial firms to steady the credit markets.
