Bradley panel votes to go ahead with school project
CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Finance Committee of the Bradley County Commission voted this afternoon to recommend going forward with $12 million worth of county school construction.
Along with a new county elementary and improvements to Valley View Elementary, the recommendation would include another $6 million that would go to the city school system for capital projects.
Finance Committee members voted to recommend the county borrow $18 million, the full amount it can afford without increasing taxes. The recommendation will come to the full commission at a workshop next week and a voting session in two weeks.
Committee members also recommended advising the Bradley County Board of Education go forward as quickly as possible with new classrooms and media center and an upgraded cafeteria at Valley View. Members said that project should get started first to ensure that all the available money isn’t absorbed for the new elementary school.
