Tennessee: IRS says retirees, vets may lose stimulus checks

NASHVILLE — An IRS spokesman says 92,000 Tennessee retirees and disabled veterans stand to forfeit economic stimulus payments.

Spokesman Dan Boone in Nashville said getting the payments requires filing a tax return by Oct. 15.

The agency said the money received through the stimulus check generally would have no impact on eligibility for Medicaid, Medicare or other government benefits.

The IRS also said the payment generally will not be counted as income or require the recipients to file future income tax returns.

The stimulus payments are $300 per person or $600 per married couple.
