Elam makes up for miss to give Falcons a last-second win

ATLANTA — Making up for a miss just minutes earlier, Jason Elam kicked a 48-yard field goal on the final play, giving the Atlanta Falcons an improbable 22-20 victory over the Chicago Bears today.

The Bears appeared to have won it when Kyle Orton threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Rashied Davis with 11 seconds remaining. Robbie Gould booted through the extra point that gave Chicago a 20-19 lead.

With many in the crowd heading for the exits, Chicago pooched the kickoff and Harry Douglas managed a short return to the Atlanta 44. Rookie Matt Ryan hooked up with Michael Jenkins on a 26-yard pass, and Elam nailed his chance at redemption.
