Chattanooga: Shooting started after apparent fight over car parts
Two men have been charged in connection with Tuesday morning’s shooting that killed one man after a fight over car parts escalated to shots fired.
Tommy Young, also known as Tommy Reed, and Terrence Walker have been charged with criminal homicide and attempted first-degree murder in connection with the death of Lafredrick Collier, 34, police said.
The shooting in the 1900 block of Southern Street in the area of the Harriet Tubman homes apparently occurred after Mr. Young and Mr. Walker began arguing about car parts, said Lt. Tim Carroll, head of the Chattanooga Police Department major crimes division.
Mr. Walker allegedly accused Mr. Young of taking rims off his car, he said.
“I guess once words don’t work, they go to extreme violence,” Lt. Carroll said.
Mr. Collier apparently was shot while he tried to break up the argument, but officials don’t know how or if he knew either Mr. Walker or Mr. Young. Police also are trying to determine which of the men involved had and shot guns.
