Georgia: Catoosa GOP hosts McCain Nation event

RINGGOLD, Ga. — Northwest Georgia Republicans will have a chance to learn more about presidential candidate John McCain and his vice presidential pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, at a public “McCain Nation” event here Saturday.

IF YOU GO

What: McCain Nation even

Where: Ringgold City Hall

When: Saturday, 11 a.m.

State Rep. Jay Neal and state Sen. Jeff Mullis, both R-Chickamauga, attended the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis last month.

The two will be at the McCain event Saturday and will recount some of the events from the convention floor.

“One of the most important purposes is to help people really get a grasp of who John McCain is and who Sarah Palin is,” Rep. Neal said about the event.

“I think we did a great job at the convention showing their commitment to country first and a lifetime of service and commitment to reform,” he said. “One of the most important things I can do is bring to life for people that these are truly worthy servants that we can support.”

Sen. Mullis has long been active in the Georgia campaign for Sen. McCain, including as co-chairman of Legislators for McCain.

The event is sponsored by the Catoosa County Republican Party, starts at 11 a.m. at Ringgold City Hall, Catoosa GOP chairman Brad Scott said.

“There will be pizza and drinks and dessert,” Mr. Scott said. “But one of the primary purpose is to hand out campaign literature.”

Yard signs, bumper stickers and other signs will be available during the hour-long event, Mr. Scott said, and there will be no charge for the materials or refreshments, he said.

More than 100 people have indicated their plans to attend, organizers said, but it is not necessary to RSVP, Mr. Scott said.

Rep. Neal said he believes that as voters learn more about the candidates, they will want to get behind them as the Nov. 4 general election contest versus the Democratic nominees, Sens. Barack Obama and Joe Biden, approaches.

“We’ve got a great candidate to get behind,” he said. “The more people learn, the more excited they will be to get out and work for them for the next 50 some days.”
