Chattanooga: TDOT commissioner discusses funding woes, toll bridge

A proposed Hamilton County road project that would include a toll bridge connecting Soddy-Daisy and Harrison still is a possibility, Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely said in Chattanooga today.

The department is conducting a preliminary study to see if the bridge project fiscally is feasible, he said.

Mr. Nicely spoke at a luncheon meeting of the Southeast Tennessee Political Action Committee.

He told attendees that the department expects the state’s fuel tax revenue to decline this year after years of growth. A state committee will look at alternative funding methods and report back to the legislature by February, Mr. Nicely said.
