Yokley found guilty of second-degree murder for Red Bank shooting

A jury on Saturday found Dyron Yokley guilty of second-degree murder for a 2007 shooting death in Red Bank’s White Oak Park.

But Mr. Yokley was found not guilty of felony murder and especially aggravated robbery in the killing of Tyus Steele.

The two-week trial in Hamilton County Criminal Court ended Thursday. The jury of eight women and four men deliberated for 12 hours Friday and then returned today for another seven hours.

Prosecutors tried to show Mr. Yokley shot Mr. Steele, then robbed him after a drug deal went badly.

Defense attorneys admitted Mr. Yokley shot Mr. Steele, but argued that it happened in the heat of the moment. They said Mr. Yokley was attacked by the victim, who mistakenly feared a man in the park was an armed drug associate of the defendant.
