Chattanooga: Former gang member sentenced for part in 2006 slaying

A Chattanooga man was sentenced today to 10 years in state prison for his role in what authorities called the “gang retaliation” shooting death of Jermaine Southers in the East Lake Courts development in June 2006.

Quanan Hutchinson, 22, a former member of the Gangster Disciples gang, originally charged with first-degree murder, pleaded guilty in April to facilitation of second-degree murder.

Forensic evidence showed the bullets that killed Mr. Southers were not fired from Mr. Hutchinson’s gun. Prosecutors had said multiple shots were fired and that made it difficult to determine who fired the fatal shots.
