You might notice that I’ve picked Kyle Busch to win the Daytona 500, and there are many reasons why.
At some races, the days leading up to the race can be misleading. Not here. Busch has looked very much in control in the draft and he can take his car to the bottom, to the middle and to the top and go forward. Also, he will be among the most helped drivers in the race because other drivers know he can, and will, go to the front. Without help here, even the best cars don’t win.
The confidence Busch had most of last year appears back. He’s always a bit cocky, but since Thursday he’s been very quiet, and that usually means good things. Some people though last year’s late-season collapse would follow him into this season, and it still could. However, he seems to have taken that experience and learned from it, preferring to let his driving do the talking.
It may also help that few people are picking him to win it all, even after he won eight races a year ago. As he’s proven time and again, when you put a challenge in front of him, he usually responds. Sunday he’ll respond big-time.
