Mortgage activity remains steady

The Mortgage Bankers Association has released its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending Dec. 26. The Market Composite Index, a measure of mortgage loan application volume, was 1,245.7, essentially unchanged, on a seasonally adjusted basis from 1,245.4 one week earlier.

This week’s results included an adjustment to account for the shortened week due to the Christmas holiday. On an unadjusted basis, the index decreased 40 percent compared with the previous week and was up 155 percent compared with the same week one year earlier.

Development space reviewed

The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission on Jan. 12 will consider a change to Chattanooga and Hamilton County’s zoning regulations regarding the definition of open spaces in planned unit developments.

The resolution would suggest excluding detention ponds unless they are part of a passive park that include, at a minimum, a fountain, benches and walking path.

The planning commission will provide a recommendation on the measure to the Chattanooga City Council and Hamilton County Commission.

Commercial use zoning sought

Jim Williamson has applied for a zoning change at 7635 Lee Highway and 7420 Bonny Oaks Drive, according to Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission documents.

The site is zoned residential and commercial, and the application would make the rest of the property commercial. The documents state that a hotel, retail space and restaurants are planned for the 6.6-acre site, which has a mobile home park.

The planning commission will consider the request on Jan. 12.
