Chattanooga: Police officer involved in car accident

While responding to an accident with injuries, a Chattanooga police officer was involved in an accident of his own tonight.

The accident occurred just before 7 p.m. on North Orchard Knob Avenue when a vehicle pulled into the path of the officer’s cruiser, said Sgt. Jerri Weary, police spokeswoman.

According to witnesses, the officer was driving with blue lights and sirens activated. Traffic was stopped to allow him to pass, but at the last moment one of the stopped vehicles turned left in front of the police cruiser.

Sgt. Weary said the officer wasn’t injured, but the driver of the other vehicle was taken to Erlanger hospital with minor injuries. No charges will be filed in the accident, she said.
