Jessie Addison

Jessic Carroll “Mrs. Jessie” Addison, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away at her residence Saturday July 4, 2009.

She was preceded in death by son, David Carroll.

Mrs. Jessie is survived by loving devoted daughter, Maxine (Jimmie) Griffin; sons, Fred Jones and Deed (Alice) Carroll, of Chattanooga, Robert (Bobbie) Canoll, Anthony Tones, of Illinois; extended family, Nancy J. Card, Gary Johnson, Ricky Johnson and Debbie Caark; 26 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and very close family friends.

Funeral service will be Friday, July 10, 2009, at noon at Miracle Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Jacks officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Visitation is at the church today from 8 to 9 p.m.

Amber Blockley

Amber Heaven Maria Blockley, of Chattanooga, departed this life and entered into her new home Tuesday, July 7, 2009.

Born on July 21, 1976, in Sweetwater, Tenn., and was raised in Kingston and Clinton, Tenn. She was a 1994 graduate of Anderson County High School where she ran track and was in the band’s flag corps. Amber chose UTC for her physical therapy training and received her BS degree in 1998. She was a longtime employee with Memorial Hospital where she was recognized as a Pioneer Award winner for going the extra mile for her patients. She volunteered her time for various charities and activities and was married in Hawaii in 2005 while running for Cancer Research. Amber was an avid long-distance runner and was loved by all who encountered her. She attended St. Jude Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Eric Blockley; parents, Ted and JoAnn Scroback; siblings, Caleb Scroback, Todd (Beth) Seward, and Jill (Troy) Anderson; nephews, Louis, who is Amber’s godson, Will, Arend and Aidan; and niece, Annese.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. today with a scripture service at 9 p.m. and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the North Chapel.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Bob Hofstetter officiating.

Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund that will be established in Amber Heaven Maria Blockley’s name for Memorial Hospital’s Physical Therapy Department, in c/o Karen Blockley, 208 Primrose Way, Signal Mountain, TN 37377.

James T. “Jim” Champion Jr., 58, left this life on Thursday, June 25, 2009, in Jacksonville, Fla.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. July 11, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 3204 Hixson Pike, Chattanooga.

Margaret Clinton

Margaret Guffey Clinton, 83, of East Brainerd, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in a local health care center.

A longtime resident of Chattanooga, Mrs. Clinton was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church and the Challengers Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Tuesday Senior Bowling League and the Roaring Twenties Bowling League at Holiday Bowl.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Clinton, and her sister, Mae Groves.

Survivors are her niece, Wanda Kohlmann, Chattanooga; and nephew, Alan Groves, Ringgold.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East with the Rev. Maurice Payne officiating.

Samantha Matthews

Samantha Jones Matthews, 43, departed this life Sunday, July 5, 2009, in Chattanooga.

She worked for many years as a CNA at NHC of Chattanooga and Health Center at Standifer Place.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willie D. Jones, and granddaughter, Naquita Chatman.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Matthews; mother, Alice J. Jones; two sons, Eric Jones and Cordell Stamper; one daughter, LaQueita Chatman; one granddaughter, Shaquarious McGhee; siblings, Yolanda (Craig) Putman; Bridgette Green, Tammy (Thadis) Howell, Kenneth Dixon and Windell Jones; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services will be held at noon Friday, July 10, 2009, at Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Adams officiating.

Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.

Espisito McClarty

Espisito Orlando “Zeke” McClarty, 64, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, in a local hospital.

He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed by Memorial Hospital and was a member of E. Third Street Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ples McClarty and grandparents.

Survivors: wife, Sharron Sims McClarty; sons, Espisito Jr., Eric, Chris all of Atlanta, Ga., and Orlando (Danielle) of New Orleans, La.; daughter, Anita of Atlanta; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; mother, Beulah Vassar of Chattanooga; brothers, Willie Clyde McClarty of Chicago, Ill., Bobby Lee (Faye) McClarty, Judge John W. McClarty, Thomas (Susie) McClarty, Ruben (Linda) Fifer and Kenneth Fifer, all of Chattanooga; sister, Jennifer Owens of Chattanooga; uncles, Irvin Jackson of Chattanooga and Usher Thomas Jackson of Chicago; aunts, Mattie King of Chattanooga, Jennie V. James Murphy

James Murphy, 71, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009, in a local health care facility.

He retired from Tennessee Plywood.

He was preceded in death by parents, Sophonia Williams and James Henry Murphy Sr.

James is survived by children, James Anthony ( Terri) Murphy and Valerie (Michael) Reese, of Lexington, Ky., Ron (Lulia) Murphy, Atlanta; sisters, Annette Beanion, Willetia Smith; brothers, Charles (Gloria), Eddie (Norma), Clyde (Velma Patton), and Theodore Williams, all of Chattanooga; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be Friday July 10, 2009, at noon at Greater Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Dr. Nathaniel Carter Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Oscar Newell Jr.

Oscar B. Newell Jr., 93, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at his home.

Teari O’Daniel

Teresa “Teari” O’Daniel, 54, of East Brainerd, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in a local hospital.

Teari had lived most of her life in Chattanooga and was a member of Bayside Baptist Church. She had been employed as an LPN with Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital and retired in 2000.

Her husband, Michael O’Daniel; and parents, Marion and Juanita Bolden, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter and fiance, Tara Barrett and Jesse Horvath, of East Brainerd; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Kim Bolden, of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Ryleigh Horvath, East Brainerd; great-aunt, Peggy Andrews, Ringgold; nieces, Ashly, Sydney, and Bradie Bolden, all of Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Pastor Eric Stitts officiating.

Edna M. Smith, 93, of Hixson, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at a local health care facility.

She was of the Church of God faith. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years at Red Bank Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Smith; parents, Isham and Melvina Millard; and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wallace Angle officiating.

Interment will follow the service at Hamilton County Memorial Park.

DAYTON — Clara Mae Hodge, 96, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at Laurelbrook Nursing Home.

She was a lifelong resident of Rhea County. She attended Laurelbrook Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Hodge; parents, Charlie and Ella Mae Woody Paul; three brothers, Leonard, Sim and Russell Paul; and two sisters, Ethel Tilly and Emma Shadden.

Survivors: several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, at 11:30 a.m. at Montgomery Cemetery.

Melanie Cleek

PALMER — Melanie Ann Cleek, 47, died Monday, July 6, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy Ed and Mildred Phillips, and brothers, Melvin McDaniel, Billy Ray and Jack Dennis Phillips.

She is survived by her daughter, Candice Brook Cleek; brothers, Raymond and Timothy Phillips; grandmother, Lela Tate; and grandchildren, Ethane Cleek, Emily and Jeffery Perry.

Funeral services will be 5:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Minister John Henry Coffelt officiating.

Burial to follow in Palmer City Cemetery.

Vadie Garrison

GRANDVIEW — Vadie Garrison, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at her home.

Born July 28, 1919, in Crosaville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Bessie and Mark Reed.

Vadie was a homemaker and a member of Grandview Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Garrison; sons, Alvin and Melvin Garrison; son-in-law, Glen Tharpe; great-great-granddaughter, Savannah Garrison; brother, Claude Reed; and sisters, Ruth Brady and Clara Cunningham.

Betty Laher

DAYTON — Betty Laher passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in a local hospital.

She was of the Methodist faith.

Her parents, Amanda Day and Garland A. Porter Sr.; brothers, Jimmy Porter and Charles D. Porter; and sisters, Virginia A. Porter and Emma P. Miller preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Keith (Teresa) Laher and Jay (Lynnette) Laher; daughter, Debbie (Charles) Roberts; brothers, Garland A. Porter Jr. and David (Sandra) Porter; sister, Lucretia (Kermit) Travis; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

ELLIJAY — Annie Louise Hollifield Elliott, 79, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Heritage Healthcare Center in Blue ridge, Georgia.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jimmy S. Elliott, of Ellijay; daughters, Barbara Ann Elliott Defoor, of East Ellijay, and Sharon Elliott Enfinger, of Ellijay; sons, Jimmy Stephen (Steve) Elliott and Jerry Lamar Elliott, of East Ellijay; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Dotson and Mr. Hershel Hollifield officiating. Music and singing will be provided by the Rev. Irene Wofford and the Rev. Lee Sutton.

Serving as pallbearers are Kevin, Chris, and Andrew Enfinger, Stephen Johnson, Les Johnson, Joe Weaver and Robert Southern.

SUMMERVILLE — Donald Ferrell Evans, 66, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009.

SENOIA — Thad Sims passed away Monday, July 6, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Trecie Sims and John and Mary Minor; father, T.L. (Jabo) Sims; and brothers, Freddy and Tommy Sims.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Sims, of Senoia; daughter, Tiffany Sims, of Senoia; son, Shannon Sims, of Senoia; grandchildren, Dustin Sims, Tyler Causey, Damon Causey, Alyssa Sims; mother, Joyce Sims Longwith, of Ooltewah, Tenn.; and brothers, Jason Sims, of Ooltewah, James Sims, of Atlanta, and David Hullender, of Jacksonville, Fla.

ROSSVILLE — Paul Anthony Williams, 54, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, July 6, 2009.

He has been a resident of North Georgia for 13 years and a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. Paul enjoyed the times he spent with his family at reunions, Christmas, or just sitting in the kitchen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry and Lillie Mae Williams, and sister, Linda Revis.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Williams; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Emily and Stacey Womack, of Chickamauga; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Jonathan and Rebecca Gray, of Rossville, and Joseph Young and Tiffaney Hill, of East Ridge; sisters, Tammy Romine, Alice Whitt, and Patsy Browder; brother, Perry Williams; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews who he dearly loved.

A memorial service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2009, with Brother Les Chadwick officiating at Mountain View Baptist Church in Rossville.

Sharon McConathy

RALEIGH, N.C. — Sharon K. McConathy, 64, died peacefully Thursday, July 2, 2009, after a valiant battle with lung cancer.

Sharon never met a stranger. Her giving heart and loving nature will be missed by a11 who knew her. Sharon was an avid Wolfpack fan, having retired from N.C. State Bookstores after nearly 25 years, where she loved talking to students and working with her colleagues.

She enjoyed the time she and her young family lived in West Germany in the late 1970s when her husband, Sam, was stationed there for the US Air Force. In recent years, she also loved traveling the country in their motor home with their dogs.

She is survived by her devoted husband, of 46 years, Sam McConathy; daughter, Sandra Harvey; and son, Tom McConathy, and his wife, Diane; and grandchildren, Johnathan Harvey, Samantha Harvey Gross, and Michael and Lindsay McConathy; sisters-in-law, Rebecca Rohar, and her husband, Pete, and Nadine Bain, and her husband, Quinton; brothers-in-law, Cecil “Bo” McConathy, and his wife, Barbara, James McConathy, and his wife, Beverly, and Herman McConathy.

A graveside service will be at noon Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Valley Head Cemetery, Valley Head, Ala.
