A man dubbed the “Spider-Man robber” for robbing several businesses last year while donning a child’s Spider-Man mask pleading guilty today in federal court to six counts of armed robbery.
Jon G. Woodburn, 46, faces up to 20 years in prison for each offense when he is sentenced Sept. 8.
Mr. Woodburn also faces aggravated robbery charges in state court, but authorities were able to charge him in federal court apparently by establishing that all the businesses, such as motels and convenience stores, that he robbed were engaged in interstate commerce.
The federal system typically carries much harsher sentences for those who plead guilty to such serious crimes as armed robbery.
