CSAS principal Steve Ball expects one of his two assistant principals will take over leadership of the K-12 magnet school when he leaves for Nashville in July, he said Monday.
“Both of my assistant principals will be interested in the position,” he said. “I think either one of them would do great.”
Metro Nashville’s Superintendent Jesse Register, former Hamilton County superintendent, announced Monday that Mr. Ball will be principal at East Literature Magnet, another K-12 school.
Mr. Ball, who came to Hamilton County in 1996 as an assistant principal at Tyner Academy, said his decision had nothing to do with being unhappy at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences.
“It’s just a new challenge,” he said.
Assistant principal Jim Boles said he has been told he will be transferred to Loftis Middle School next year. Although he has not applied to be principal at CSAS, he said he would be interested in staying at the magnet school if there was an opportunity.
Messages left for assistant principal Cindy Dees were not returned Monday.
Mr. Ball, whose twin sons will be juniors next year at CSAS, said he will come back to Chattanooga often. He officially won’t leave the school until mid-July, he said.
