Vols get juco line commit

KNOXVILLE — Those who think college football championships are built around defensive lines are probably pleased with Tennessee's 2010 recruiting class.

John Brown, a former Florida defensive linemen currently at Northeast Mississippi Community College, committed Wednesday to UT coaches.

The 6-foot-2, 300-pound Brown, a highly-regarded Florida native, left UF this spring but planned to return to the Southeastern Conference. He plans to arrive at UT before the 2010 season, with two seasons of eligibility left.

“I love the fact we (UT) play Florida every year,” Brown told Scout.com. “Hopefully I can have a big homecoming game.”

Brown told the Web site that he wanted “to get to the (NFL), and Tennessee is the best way for me to get there.

“It is my goal to win a national championship while I’m in Knoxville,” he continued. “Coach (Ed Orgeron) is the best defensive line coach in the country, and Coach Monte Kiffin is the best defensive coordinator.”

Several members of UT’s eight-member, defensive-line-heavy Class of 2010 commitment list have made similar comments about Orgeron and Kiffin.
