Ringgold High School graduate and Kennesaw State University pitcher Kyle Heckathorn was chosen by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 47th pick of the major league baseball amateur draft tonight.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound Heckathorn was 4-1 with a 3.44 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 86 1/3 innings pitched for the Owls this season and ended his junior season with a 15-strikeout game against North Florida. He had visited with every big-league team prior to the draft.

Heckathorn was the fourth Georgian selected Tuesday, following high school stars Donovan Tate from Cartersville, who went third overall to San Diego, and East Paulding pitcher Zack Wheeler, who went sixth to San Francisco. Kennesaw teammate Chad Jenkins, whose parents are from the northwest Georgia area, was selected by Toronto with the 20th overall pick.

Heckathorn is being advised by Victor Menocal, a certified Major League Baseball Player’s Association agent with Career Sports & Entertainment.
