Lee University pitcher Jeff Ibarra was selected in the 23rd round of the Major League baseball draft by the San Diego Padres.
The 6-foot-6 left-hander who is originally from California was used as a reliever by the Flames, who finished third in the NAIA tournament. He had a 3.44 ERA and a 4-1 record.
“The scouts seem to like him because of his size and the fact that he’s left-handed with a fastball around 89-90 (mph), a good slider and a change-up,” Lee University coach Mark Brew said.
The draft continues today through the 30th round and will finish up Thursday with rounds 31-50.
