KNOXVILLE — So, about last night...
I incorrectly reported in my University of Tennessee men’s basketball story that the Volunteers had 14 scholarships for next season, as opposed to the 15 allotted NCAA Division I programs.
Men’s programs are actually allotted 13 scholarships, while women have as many as 15. Therefore, the Vols will have 12 scholarships for next season. I appreciate a couple of alert readers bringing this careless mistake to my attention.
As one of my favorite college professors liked to say, “People are entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts.” This is especially true for journalists. Kudos to the UT-Chattanooga fan who joked via e-mail that the Vols were “obviously cheating” by having more scholarships than other programs, though. I laughed at that one. Readers notifying you of errors is never fun, but the jokes make it more tolerable.
