"Defending Freedom Daily, Since 1776".
That's the motto on the Chattanooga Times home page today.

I like that, and I like today's cartoon.
Both remind me how much I appreciate our country.

Thanx Clay, well stated.

Way to go Clay. The only thing I could possibly add to what you have provided us today would be the following quote from Thomas Jefferson.
"The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter...."
Thank you, on behalf of the former president and myself, for your time and attention,
Woody

Reminds ME of ABCNews turning its programing over to the White House and moving its broadcast studios and anchors there for Dear Leader's upcoming prime time infomercial on ObamaCare. Oh yes, it is all one-sided with NO viewpoint broadcast except The One's.

So change the 'toons cleric to Dear Leader covering up the US news about anything he wants hidden and there you go. Oh, that's right...it's OK. "He won."

So don't be pointing fingers at Iran...look much, much closer to uncover news suppression.

I wonder what OUR next election will involve... No second party allowed broadcast time, perhaps? No opposing views permitted online or in print? Think it can't happen? Well, ABCNews just did it.

No wonder the people are arming up.

Rolando, you're so funny. You get your knickers in such a knot over the nuttiest stuff.

What ABC decided to do (not Obama) can hardly be compared to a GOVERNMENT restricting reporters to their offices, denying them visas, and then ordering them to leave the country.

You won't see it that way, though, because ANYTHING that this White House does is so much more egregious than ANYTHING any previous White House has ever done. This Obamaphobia of yours is getting kind of old, rolando. You might want to save your ammo for a real fight and not these paranoid delusions.

I've noticed an incredibly consistent tendency among right-wingers to refer to the president as anything but 'Obama'. I have seen one of our own resident conservatives refer to him a 'Dumbo', 'The One', and his current favorite- 'Dear Leader'.

If you try a Google search of these terms online, you'll get hundreds (if not thousands) of examples of sites using the exact same euphemisms to refer to the president. This not only speaks to this group's complete lack of both originality and independent thought, but it also demonstrates the desperation of their movement. Because when your argument centers around juvenile name-calling, you know you've hit rock-bottom

Rolando, I must admit, you occasionally bring out the "Liberal" side of me, even though I do my best to stay somewhere closer to the middle. However, your remarks thus far are just so far out of "Right Field" I can't help myself.
Check your facts a little closer and you will note (even if you refuse to admit it) it is the "Right" side of the aisle doing their level best to keep the "Fairness Doctrine" from ever seeing the light of day again.
But, have a great day, anyway,
Woody

rolando states, "No wonder the people are arming up."

Wow, in the wake of the shooting of three cops in Pittsburgh, a doctor Wichita and a security guard in Washington DC, that's a pretty disturbing statement. I guess people turn to guns when they've lost the battle of wits.

Rolando,

I'll have to think about what you're stirring up in the pot. I know that newspapers EACH lean in the different direction. Two are the Richmond Times Dispatch, and the Washington Post. But even the RTD as Republican oriented as it is, writes well. Yes, the WP leans to more Democratic
dealings, but they certainly balance out. If all the Newspapers were either Dem or Rep. I'd really worry. I guess Mr. Mooney's ownership of the Washington Times might be questionable, but I haven't read his publication lately.
I lost Al Jazarah(sp), and still hit BBC if I'm awake at night.

I'm not going to discuss the CFP because it has Clay, and it is beyond my intelligence and very frustrating to grasp their teasing headlines.

Although Clay has left the Ch.Sc. Monitor, I still find it gives a fairly balanced viewpoint.

And I repeat...the newspapers and their viewpoints balance out.

When I was a child, it was the "Communist Worker" I thought ridiculous.

And while I'm at it, although it might be off the subject, I'd like to remind ya'll, that inbreeding in a limited gene pool leads to severe deterioration of a breed or race.

I think that goes for religions, too.

toonfan,
You left out the military recruiters who were shot by an Islamic radical, I wonder why?

The maniac in D.C. was a 9/11 truther, and a big hater of Pres. Bush.

Which side lost the battle of wits? Oh yeah, the crazy homicidal maniacs from ANY political faction.

Rolando,
Right on. The biggest difference between Iran vs. U.S. is the Iranian media is being overtly silenced. Here in the U.S. most of the media is so busy examining the interior of POTUS's colon that they can not/will not function in a critical capacity.

As for Clay's toon today. He makes a good point. The Iranian clerical regime, with their Islamic dogma and disregard for human rights, is holding back a great nation .

We have a fair and balanced news organization in this country- just as long as you have enough sources to make the balance. As much as I dislike Fox News, I sometimes read it because I know it may have something biased on the right that the others have left out for being biased on the left. If there's anything worse than not being informed, it's being totally misinformed.

The toon is dead accurate, scottym. No complaints there.

The contents of the pot are whatever you add, Clara; your choice. And you pretend ignorance...

----------------------

For those readers here who cannot see the differences between Pravda, Air America, and Talk Radio, you are beyond redemption. This is ANYTHING but a "Fairness Doctrine" issue.

For toonfan specifically, the "Dumbo" was for the ears; the "The One" because he was reported as being the messiah; and "Dear Leader" for [what else?] his communistic leanings like those of another nutcase [the inscrutable one with nukes] They were my idea since they matched so well, not someone else's regurgitated label [such as "Shrub"]. Did you ever doubt of whom I spoke? Mission accomplished -- communication successful.

I don't have much to comment on here.

I think the entertaining string was started inadvertently by rolando. (As an aside, I think if Clay had a cartoon image that was just a green rectangle, rolando would use it as a springboard to bash the president.)

Anyway... I thought "shrub" was a combo of Dub and a Bush.
Of course, I always called him Bush.

As for rolando's nicknames of the president, yes, most of the rabid-right talking heads use these terms and others(as for the very reasons rolando explained). Using nicknames like this isn't one of rolando's best qualities, but if he thinks they're funny... so be it... free country.

I would advise rolando not to use these kinds of nicknames for the very reason we're talking about them, though... they distract from the central message.

It's like flag burning, in that way. Powerful image, but the message gets lost in the flame.

I'm sure Darth Cheney would agree with me.

As a young baby boomer, I remember the T-shirts with the dart board "stick a hola in the Iatola." Just reliving fond foreign policy of the 70's sorry.

CNN reportes that around 50 percent of the population of Iran is 25 or younger. The youth must feel so oppressed with antiquated rules and government. Iran needs reform, and apparantely the citizens of Iran will demand this, but it will not without cost. I wish the people protesting corrupt election and government courage and strength.

It is good to see so many Iranian faces and hear so many Iranian voices.

Here are a few more images:

I suspect that these Iranian protests have already been "revolutionary," showing many Americans for the first time how their Iranian neighbors really think and speak and look.

Perhaps the proliferation of these photos and these testimonies can truly and finally help to exorcise the bad old bogeyman of Iran as belonging to "the Axis of Evil."

The text messaging, blogging, and photo-messaging may not only serve to change oppressive politics _inside_ Iran; these new media may also serve to overthrow anti-Iranian prejudice inside America--something that can be too easily manipulated by leaders wishing to promote military invasions and regime changes.
