After leading Ridgeland High School's Panthers to three straight playoff appearances, coach Mark Mariakis faced an even bigger hurdle. In early 2009, a ringing in his right ear turned out to be a rare “acoustic neuroma” tumor. Now, fewer than three months after surgery, Mariakis will spend Father’s Day on vacation with his family.
